Great News!

Well, I know you have been waiting to hear the verdict! I DO NOT HAVE MONO!!!!! Yup, and I could not be MORE happy about it! Also, MY FEVER IS GONE! As the day went on, I started feeling better and better and I was excited to see for the first time since Monday I do not have a fever πŸ™‚

Lunch was bought today since I didn’t really have energy to pack one this morning. I had a salad that contained: spring mix, tomatoes, cucumbers, hot peppers, green and black olives, chicken, kidney beans, chickpeas, pimentos, onions, artichoke hearts and feta πŸ™‚

I also had some spring veggie soup on the side.

My body was seriously craving veggies. I have definitely had a huge lack of them while being sick. I just didn’t want to eat them, so I didn’t.

Well, I am excited for a relaxing weekend πŸ™‚ Nothing really planned. I am going to lay off the working out until at least Monday, I want to wait until I feel 100% better. I am playing it smart. I am hoping since it is nice to get in a few walks though. Especially since Sunday is Oscar’s 4th Birthday!!!!

She’s BAAACCCCKKKK!

Hello! WOW! It has been a week since I blogged. I think that is the longest I have ever gone without blogging in my 10 months of blogging. Thanks so much for the comments, e-mails and tweets regarding me being sick. I went to the doctor yesterday and she told me I have a really bad virus. They are not sure what kind of virus it is and ended up testing me for mono. I will find out today or tomorrow if mono is what I have. I still have a pretty high fever and am not feeling great, but I am trying to keep my mind off of it. Since the doctor said that it may be mono, I have been praying and crossing my fingers that it is not mono for a few reasons:

  1. Mono means I will feel this way for a few weeks. 😦
  2. Mono means I cannot work out at all for four weeks, at least.
  3. Not working out for four weeks means I cannot run the half marathon I have trained for for 6 months.
  4. Mono means I will feel perpetually tired for a few weeks and I have so much to get done for my wedding that is in 9 weeks.

So keep those fingers crossed for me. PLEASE!

So, the idea of filling you guys in on 6 days on my meals is super overwhelming. It would also be super boring to you because:

  1. I did not eat that much since I was feeling so sick.
  2. When I did eat it was leftovers from my bridal shower (boy did those come in handy with me being sick) or the same freakin’ oatmeal.

So, I will fill out in on the good stuff that ate before being sick and then give you a few pictures of sick eats. Sound good?! I hope so! So without further ado, here is my catch you up post!

Well, I have had a great weekend last week. Friday after work Adam and I headed to the jewelers to pick out wedding bands.Β  We think we have them pretty much picked out and we both have to have them made from scratch because we are choosy like that πŸ™‚ I will show then to you all when they are done, can’t wait!

As promised Friday afternoon, I got the cupcake I was craving. My friend Jill and I split a red velvet cupcake on the to get out nails done. It was divine and hit the spot. That is a coffee in the background and yes it is mine πŸ™‚

After the cupcake we got our nails done for my upcoming wedding shower that weekend. Um…excuse me princess, but who is the bride?! Jill had two people working on her at once!

After getting our nails done we met up with my friend Ibelis and headed to dinner at Chow Thai Cafe for dinner.Β  I started with a glass of Pinot Nior.

For my meal I got the spicy bamboo shoots stir-fry with tofu and steamed brown rice. It was huge so I ate about half and took the rest home.

After dinner we had one beer before hitting the hay! We all had a Sam Adams Cherry Wheat. We had a road trip planned for early the next day and needed some sort of rest.

We were up with the sun the next day to head out for our road trip to get a gift for Ibelis’s boyfriend. We had about a 2 hour drive to and from our destination. I had a little bagel bar set up for everyone with whole wheat bagels and all the topping options: laughing cow, cream cheese, peanut butter, dark chocolate peanut butter, barney butter, bananas, tomato slices. I also packed us all coffee in to-go mugs. The girls enjoyed their breakfast!

My breakfast was a whole wheat bagel with laughing cow cheese and tomato and a coffee with half and half.

YUM! And…we were off for our road trip! The car ride was full of a lady Gaga sing along and a ton of laughter! Nothing like am early morning drive with your best friends!

While running our secret errand, I snacked on a fiber one bar. May had it in her purse and I was starving!

After running our secret errand we had some lunch. Belle and I split a veggie panini and a turkey avocado wrap. The panini had peppers, parsnips, asparagus and tomatoes. The turkey wrap had lettuce, tomatoes and avocado.Β  Both were delicious and I also had a side of sweet potato fries.

To drink I enjoyed a bud light.

It was a long drive home, so we stopped at dunkins for iced coffees. I got mine with cream and sugar instead of just cream. I never do this, but had a taste for something sweet.

Saturday’s outfit looks like this:

Jean (Gap circa 1998), Gray v-neck T-shirt (American Apparel), Hoodie (Primp).

Once we arrived back on Boston we met Adam and a few friends of for some drinks. It was a beautiful day and a few adult beverages were consumed.

My friend Jill and I split my leftovers from Friday night for dinner when we got home. πŸ™‚ Still yummy and spicy, so delicious!

On Sunday morning Adam and I got up and were super excited about our Wedding Shower!!!! YAY! After 18 months of planning this wedding is really starting to seem real πŸ™‚

Breakfast was a spinach, mushroom and and goat cheese egg white omelet. My camera ate the omelet picture, sorry.Β  On the side I had coffee and fresh fruit.

After breakfast, we got ready for our bridal shower!Β  My bridesmaids did such a fantastic job, I can’t even believe it. I am still in awe of all of their hard work, I feel so grateful to have all of them in my life. I have the best friends anyone could ever hope for!

There were so many people, when I walked it I got so excited and tried to make it a point to chat with everyone and thank them all for coming. Adam and I are very lucky people to have such great family and friends!

The food was delicious. We has ziti, stuffed shells, chicken piccata and salad. Every bit of was wonderful – so know you know why I lived off of the leftovers this week while I was sick.

I basically have been in bed since Tuesday night. This was finals week for me, so it was so hard being sick and having to focus and take finals. But, I am a trooper and got though it. I am still not feeling well today and still have a fever. I came into work to get a few things done, but to be honest- the bed is calling my name. I am hoping that doing this catch up post will get me back on a normal blogging schedule, I am hoping to feel 100% soon and now that school is over, my life will be a lot less hectic!

Eats for today so far were a whole wheat bagel with blueberry jam, peanut butter and 1/2 of a banana. This picture only had 1/2 because the other half was in my mouth. oops!

Thriv Gives!

Hello and good afternoon! My eyes are killing me right now…allergies or exhaustion. Me thinks allergies!

Lunch today was left over salad from last night and some grapes (on sale this week!).

This salad was better the second day. That is usually the case since all of the flavors mix in overnight! YUM!

Happy Friday! How are all of you today?! I am good. I am excited for this weekend! Tonight I am going for manis and pedis with two of my girlfriends/bridesmaids. Tomorrow we are taking a small road trip to Maine to buy my Ibelis’ boyfriend a very special gift (love girl road-trips…I smell a Lady Gaga sing along coming πŸ˜‰ ). And- Sunday is my bridal shower πŸ™‚ YAY!

Ok, let’s get through today first though! This morning I actually had a 5 mile run planned with Julia, but when I got up to use the bathroom at 5:15 am, my legs were EVER MORE sore than yesterday! Sometimes two days after a tough workout is worse than the very next day. Today was one of those days. I quickly tweeted Julia that I needed a rest and headed back to bed. I woke up to a tweet by her that said, ” That is great! I think your body would like a rest day! Good for you for listening to it.” πŸ™‚ Friends like Julia are great because they know that listening to your body is important and encourage you to do so,Β  even if that means they are running alone that day.Thanks, Julia…just another reason why I love running with you πŸ™‚

But, sometimes, and I have mentioned this before- rest days are hard for me mentally. For example, today I WANT to run, but I know I shouldn’t. I am sure that the run would not be good and my body is asking for a rest. But, because running is more than just a physically release for me but also a mental and emotional release, I have days were my brain and my body are not in agreement. Today is that day. But, I am listening to my body and resting. I am hoping to get in a slow and easy 3 mile recovery run tomorrow if my legs feel up to it.

Ok, I know your thinking enough with the text we want some pictures, right?!

Breakfast:

On the right is coffee …obvi! But on the left…what the heck is that? Oatmeal? NOPE! It’s barley! Last night while cooking the barley for my dinner I had a conversation with myself (which happens more often than I would like to admit) that went like this:

Me: “Hum…this looks like oatmeal before it is cooked. Cool! Does that mean it is a breakfast food too?!”

Me answering my own question: “Sure, why not?!”

So I saved the left over barley from last night, heated it up in the microwave for a minute and a half and then topped it with barney butter, cinnamon and maple syrup. It was great! It has a much less creamy texture than oatmeal and a little more of a nutty flavor. It reminded me of oats, but with a few small difference. I really liked it. Barley for breakfast…who knew!?

In Other News:

1. I finally bit the bullet and bought a much needed new pair of running shoes! I could not find my running shoes- The Sacony Progrid Guide 2 -anywhere in my size.

So I looked like I had to go with the Progrid Guide 3, the newer version.

I wanted to know what the difference between the newer and older model was so I went and searched the Runner’s World forums and found my answer. The answer is that there are no huge differences. These forums are a great resource if you are looking for specific answers to anything running related.

2. Adam and I are going to look at wedding bands today during my lunch break! EEEEKKKKK! πŸ™‚

Hello! Well Thursday is wrapping up and Friday is right around the corner! YAY! After work I headed to class, I was so excited when we gout out about 45 minutes earlier than usual. YES πŸ™‚ My friend Loren and I headed to Whole Foods, so we could pick up a few things. I was so good and only got what I went there for πŸ™‚ I am so proud of that. I purchased:

  • 2 Green Superfood Bars
  • Barley
  • 2 boxes of Annie’s fruit snacks (long run fuel)
  • Goat cheese
  • Organic Chickpeas

Dinner was a delicious salad that I thought up while trying to figure out what to make for dinner. I cooked about 1 cup of dry barley (yield 2 and a half cups cooked). While that was cooking I steamed a whole bunch of fresh veggies- carrots, zucchini, broccoli and cauliflower and drained and rinsed on can of chickpeas. Then I mixed 1 and a half cups of cooked barley, 1 can of drained and rinsed chickpeas and all the steamed veggies together. Then I added goat cheese and balsamic vinaigrette dressing to taste. It makes about 3 servings and was so fresh and delicious!

Check out Ms. Caitlin on the Oprah Winfrey Network! So amazing!!!! I am actually in that video I am the person taking the picture of the OB note that says “Thank Yourself for Your Workout Today. You Are Beautiful”. I am so glad that Operation Beautiful has made it so far, it is an amazing message. Thanks, Caitlin for reminding us how beautiful we are! πŸ™‚

Upper Body Only.

Hola! How is your afternoon going? Mine is good πŸ™‚ I was really feeling the hunger effects of my long distance yesterday and was starving for lunch around 11:45. I held on until 12pm- but it was not easy.

Lunch was a yummy salad that consisted of :

  • Spring mix
  • carrots
  • cucumbers
  • a whole red bell pepper (had to be used up)
  • cheddar cheese
  • turkey
  • balsamic dressing

So many colors!

I actually (very naively) planned on going to Body Pump today during my lunch break. Um…my legs were not making it through those squats and lunges today after my last two workouts for anything! So I decided to go down to the gym in my building and so an upper body weight training workout instead. It has actually been a while since I have weight trained on my own, I usually BP 2-3 times a week as my weight training.

I did two exercises per upper body muscle group. I did 3 sets of 12 for each (besides the crunches)

Chest:

  • Flys
  • Push-ups

Biceps:

  • Bicep curls
  • Concentration curls

Triceps:

  • Dips
  • Over-head extensions

Shoulders:

  • Upright rows
  • Side Raises

Back:

  • Low back extensions
  • Seat rows

Abs:

  • Captains chair
  • 75 crunches on the balance ball

After I felt great! It was to rest the lower body and work on the upper body. Even though the legs are tired and sore, I was still able to get in my planned upper body strength training.

Happy Girl!

Since I did my workout in 45 minutes, I had time to run a few errands. It was good to walk around a little and get the legs moving. Sitting in a chair all day has been making me feel stiff. If you are a long time reader you will know to celebrate the end of a semester I always buy a new book. It is my way of getting excited about reading for pleasure rather than reading text books. I got Kelly Cutrone’s book, the title is SO HER! hahaha!

I will let you know how I like it!!! Oh-btw- I liked the Coco Channel book. It was pretty informative about her life. Being a huge Coco fan, I actually have read and seen a lot of biographical information about her. However, there were a few things I didn’t know and it was fun to read. I recommend it if you are interested in Coco.

I am currently enjoying an afternoon snack while working before heading to class at 4:30.
