Wish Me Luck!

Hello Hello! How is everyone?! I have had a great few days! After work on Thursday I met my good friend Page for a glass of wine at the Last Harrah. It was so great to see Page. Isn’t she adorable?!

While catching up with Page I had two glasses of red wine and some warm mixed bar nuts. Yum!

It was so great to see Page! We hadn’t seen each other in a few months and I was so excited to see her. When I got home I made a quick dinner before crashing for the night. I had a can of Amy’s vegetable barley soup and a grilled cheese on wheat.

For dessert I had two squares of sea salt dark chocolate. It is officially my favorite chocolate.

Friday morning I had a breakfast date with my friend Jill. She came over at 9:30 am and I made us breakfast. We had egg white, cheese and veggie bacon on a whole wheat English muffin and some fruit salad made with strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, watermelon and grapes. It was delicious!

Jill and I walked into downtown to sit poolside, on the way we stopped and got an iced coffee. I got a large iced coffee with vanilla syrup and half and half.

I spend about 2 hours laying by the pool with Jill, it was a great Friday morning 🙂

Jill got some nasty blisters yesterday and I had to do some nurse work in a park bench to get her back on track. I have learned a lot about blisters while training for my half marathon. I am a pro!

We were all craving pizza and hit up Pizzeria Regina for some beer and pizza. We got a pizza with black olives and artichoke hearts. Yummm!

Ice cold beer!!!!!

The pizza and beer were amazing. However, the waitress was incredibly rude! I was actually shocked by her rudeness, she yelled at us from across the restaurant to hurry it up because they needed the table. There were about 3-5 empty tables. SO RUDE!

While we were “hurrying along” the juke box played “here comes the bride” (what juke box even has that?!) and I got pretty emotional! I hope I can keep it together the day of my wedding!

We (myself, Ashley and Jill) spent the rest of the afternoon enjoying the sunshine and a few adult beverages. Later in the evening, we went to the 99 for dinner . We decided to get a few appetizers. We ordered spinach and artichoke dip.

Southwestern egg rolls.

We also got buffalo chicken and potato skins.

I had a little of each except for the chicken.

This morning I got up and did a BUNCH of things around the apartment. Around 1pm I starting thinking, why and I am hungry?! Then I realized that I hadn’t eaten breakfast…oops!!!!! I went to Zumes coffee house with Jill, Belle and Ashley for sandwiches. I got a hummus and veggie wrap.

I also had a small iced coffee and split a bag of dill pickle chips with Jill and Ashley. I have never had then before…holy yum.

After lunch we headed to the runners expo for the half marathon to look around and pick up our numbers.

The expo was kind of ho-hum. Fage was there giving away samples, I had a sample with strawberry topping.

It was so yummy!!!! I bought some Clif gel and shock blockers for Adam and I for the race too. The race is organized my the Boston Police and they had a sign up at the expo that had names of all the police officers that died in the line of duty all over the state of MA. It was pretty touching.

This is the half marathon route. It looks long, huh?!

After the expo our friends that are running with us came over and we cooked a spaghetti dinner. We had salad, watermelon, no pudge brownies, whole wheat pasta and garlic bread. YUMMM! I had some whole wheat pasta and garlic bread.

It was awesome! Stephanie made the BEST garlic bread…yum yum!

I also had a few brownies. What?! They are fuel right?!

We had a ton of watermelon, so sweet and so hydrating!!!

I totally got caught eating the watermelon like cereal. It was soooo good!

My friend Melissa made little running goodie bags for all 6 of us runners (including her). It was the sweetest and cutest idea ever!!!

It had gatorade, a banana, oranges, and gummy bears! She is soooooo sweet!

Well, I am going to continue hydrating and hang out with my friends. We are having a mini sleep over! Yay!!!! I am so excited and so nervous about my run tomorrow!!!! I still can’t believe I am running a half marathon!!!!! Next time you guys see me I will have completed my half. Thanks for all your support throughout my training. I will be thinking of all your words of encouragement!!! Wish me luck!!!

Hello everyone! OH MY GOSH! Today is dragging!!! I think it is the anticipation of the long weekend. I actually have a four day weekend! WOO HOO!

I had a busy morning filled with meetings and I was starving the whole time. I was counting down minutes until lunch. I have been having a few days like that lately. I am blaming the new schedule. I worked through my lunch. I like saving the 30 minutes I get for lunch for later on in the day, it helps break the day up.

Lunch was a giant salad. It was tasty, fresh and perfect.

This salad was a mix of:

  • Spring Mix
  • Tomatoes
  • Carrots
  • Tabouli
  • Blue Cheese
  • Red Peppers
  • Tuna
  • Avocado
  • Balsamic Dressing

Around 3pm I pulled this guy out of my dismal snack draw(er) supply.

I gobbled down half of it. YUM!

Well, I have a little more than an hour or so left here and then it is a long weekend for me. YAY!

See you guys later 🙂

Good morning!!!! Well, today is my Friday and I am excited about it. The longer days have taken a little bit of a toll on me and I think it will be great for me to have a few days off. I think it will take another week or so for me to get used to the new summer hours and then I should be fine. Adam has been working a lot of overtime lately since we have some bigger wedding payments coming up. He is such a trooper and I love him for all his hard work. But, I have been going to bed much later than usual because I try to stay up and wait for him.  That in combination with getting up earlier has got me dragging a little.

So, a GREEN MONSTER was in order this morning.

I actually made 2 monsters- one for me and one for Adam. He is coming over to the dark side 😉 He needed a little monster in his life this morning. He is exhausted…poor guy 😦

Both Monsters were made up of:

  • 1 banana
  • ice
  • 1 cup of fat free milk
  • 2 HUGE handfuls of spinach
  • flax seeds
  • peanut butter
  • 1 scoop of chocolate green superfood

I had a fantastic walk into work this morning with my friend Melissa. I love that she works so close and can walk into work with me. It is nice to have time to chat and catch up while walking to work. I think we both appreciate the company. On the way in we stopped and got coffee. I got a hot one today since it is a little chiller than it has been that last few mornings.

Today’s Outfit:

Blue Polo Dress (I have had this for AGES since High School, at least!), Black and white ribbon belt (Ralph Lauren), Black cardigan (Jacob), Black leather flip flops (Target).

In Other News:

This upcoming weekend is Memorial Day Weekend, which is the “unofficial” start of summer. So in honor of that, I thought I would share with you all my favorite Summer 2010 fashion trends:

ANIMAL PRINTS: I love how much fun a little animal print can add to an outfit. Remember though- less is more, don’t overdo it. Oh- and always go faux. We heart our animal friends! I love adding my leopard or giraffe print cardigans with dark denim and a crisp white shirt. Animal print flats or a clutch and add a little pop to a ho-hum outfit.

PEEP TOES: These have been “in” for a few years, but I feel like they are still a must-have this summer. They are a fantastic way to show off your gorgeous summer pedi. They are sassy but also great for people who work in offices with a strict dress code as they are summery but not a sandal.

WHITE: This is really the only season that screams white. So I love to take advantage of that! I love white with bright colors. Maybe a white shirt dress with a bright belt or a bright sandal. I also love to make a more muted combo with black- it is classic, clean and chic! White eyelet is also super fun and girlie. You will see A LOT of white from me this summer. (That was a wedding joke- in case you didn’t realize 😉 ).

HIGH WAISTED: I know, I know some of you are rolling your eyes and are hating this trend, but I looooove it! I love how flattering and fun a high waist can be. There are ways to do it for every figure. If you tend to be bigger on bottom, try a high waisted fuller skirt. If you want to conceal a tummy, go with a high waisted jean with a cute tank tucked in, it will move the focus more to your legs. If you are a risk taker, go with a high waisted pair of shorts. I LOVE MINE!

FEMININE: Summer is a great season for girlie frocks. I love fun pastel colors, lace, satin, ruffles. The great thing about it is that these girlie clothes come in styles that will flatter everyone’s beautiful bodies 🙂

ROMPERS: I really love the one piece shorts look! I think they are so cute and you can dress then up or down just by accessorizing accordingly. There is a style for everyone from denim, to nautical, to leopard print (I own all three 🙂 ).

METALLICS: Metallics scream glam. Metallics pop against black, but also look great with bright colors. They go with everything. Try a metallic clutch or pump for a night out or a metical flip flop for those summer bbq’s.

What are you favorite trends this summer? Which ones to you hate?

Hello! Well humpday is wrapping up! I actually don’t have lunch pictures. As I may have touched on briefly earlier this month, there has been some restructuring at my job and I will be moving to a different office and building on campus and have some added responsibilities. I had a lunch meeting with some new people that I will be working with and am not 100% sure I want to share my blog with them just yet. So, until I am sure I want them to know about it I took no lunch pictures.

If you have a blog do the people at your “real job” know about it? Do just co-workers but not bosses know? How do you feel about people you work with knowing about it? If you don’t have a blog, how would you feel if you were a blogger?

We ended up going to Emmets for lunch. I had the turkey burger, I asked for it on whole wheat instead of a bun and a side salad instead of the fries. It was topped with cheddar and sauteed peppers and onions. I ate it open faced with a fork and a knife. I was excited to meet some of the people I will be working with and think I will really like working in the new office. I hope the transition is easy for me.

After work I met up with some friends Steph and Ashley for a 75 minute slow flow yoga class. While walking to the gym, I had a medium french vanilla iced coffee with half and half.

I was really excited about yoga tonight. I was thinking it was going to be a GREAT way to stretch out my body before my half marathon WHICH IS IN 3 DAYS!!!! EEEEKKKK, so excited!!!! Sauna Yoga was fantastic. However, it was 90 degrees here in Boston today and the AC in the yoga studio was not working. It was an unintentional HOT yoga class. 90 degrees + a room packed with bodies= HOT HOT YOGA! My foot was sliding down the leg of my yoga pants while I was trying to maintain tree pose since I was so sweaty. But, afterwards I felt amazing! I really love yoga!!!

After yoga, I did some work for my part time job and then got to making dinner. I was starving by the time dinner came. I made a huge and delicious salad, which was perfect on a hot night.

This salad contained:

  • Spring Mix
  • Cucumbers
  • Carrots
  • Tomatoes
  • Avocado
  • Tabouli
  • Tuna
  • Blue Cheese
  • Balsamic Dressing

I spent the rest of the night catching up on a little TV and am now going to take some chamomile tea and my book to bed.

Have a great night! I will see you all tomorrow!!! I hope you all have a great night 🙂

Girl Time!

Sometimes life gets stressful, lucky God gives us girls the cure for a stressful day. It’s called GIRL TIME! Sometimes all a girl needs is a few hours of fun and laughter with her friends and she is good as new! I had a super stressful day yesterday and a little time with some girlfriends was a prefect cure.

Before leaving work, I snacked on 1/2 of a carrot cake clif bar. Working longer hours and getting up early has messed with my hunger a little bit. I think more snacking will be in order for a few weeks until my body gets used to it.

After work, since it was over 90 degrees out, I hit up Dunkin Donuts for a medium iced coffee.

I met up with Ashley and Jill and we were supposed to lay out at the pool in the building Ashley works in, but there was no sun there. All the high rises around it were blocking the sun. So we walked across the street to the Boston Common and laid out there!

Sunshine+ girl talk = 🙂

After laying out, the girls offered to take me out to dinner since I had had a bad day. I have great friends! We decided on Faijitas and ‘Ritas. While looking over the menu we drank some sangria and snacked on some chips ans salsa.

The salsa was awesome, I think it was homemade!

For my meal I got the veggie burrito, which was grilled veggies, beans and cheese in a homemade flour tortilla.

I got a side of guacamole and black olives!

The burrito was AMAZING! The tortilla was crunchy yet still soft and chewy in the inside. You could tell it was homemade! The veggies were perfectly seasoned. The guacamole was some of the best I have ever had!

It was great to spend the evening with my girlies! I got home around 9:30 and watched a little TV before calling it a night.

This morning it was so hard to get out of bed early. My body is still adjusting to a wake up call that is an hour earlier now! I got up and dressed and hurried out the door.

I grabbed an iced coffee for the walk in.

I listened to an old workout play list during the walk it. It was a great playlist!

Breakfast was eaten at work while I was getting some things done.

  • 1/3 of a cup of oatmeal
  • 2/3 of a cup of water
  • 1/2 of a banana
  • cinnamon
  • a spoonful of peanut butter

I was so hungry by the time it was made I think I burnt my throat a little not being able to wait for it to cool down. OUCH!

Today’s Outfit:

Green kimono dress (TJ Maxx), Black cami (Forever 21), Black Leather flip flops (Target).

Hello! If you missed my last few weekend catch up posts you can find them here, here and here! Thanks for bearing with me! Sometimes my weekends are busier than my weekdays and it is hard to get everything posted for you guys if I want to do it in a quality way. I would rather it be a little late and good rather than rushed and on time.

I got up earlier this morning than usual. Since I am now working a four day work week for the rest of the summer, my days are longer, so I need to get up earlier to get into work earlier and I will be staying later too. I had a hard time getting up early since I was having a dream that I was in the cast of FRIENDS! Isn’t that a great dream?! I hit snooze a few times to finish it up 😉

Breakfast was a container of Blueberry Siggi’s yogurt.

I mixed it with 1/2 a cup of Kashi go Lean and 1/2 a cup of Kashi Go Lean Crunch and some fresh berries.

It tasted so fresh and summery. I had a fantastic walk to work today while chatting with my friend Jill! Iced coffee was had 🙂

Low sodium Turkey with laughing cow, lettuce and mustard on a whole wheat flat out wrap with an apple and salt and vinegar popchips! Yum!

Today’s Outfit:

Floral dress (H&M), Mule sandals (Nine West).

I love the ruffle sleeves on this dress:

I have had these shoes for about 6 years, they are great summer go-to’s for work!

Don’t Forget:

The AMAZING folks at Healthworks offered all (female…sorry guys!) Food, Fitness, Fashion readers a 3-day pass to to their gym!

EVOO and a C.E.YO

Hello! Whew well I am finally catching you guys up on Monday! YAY! We are getting there! Yesterday morning, I woke up with an awful headache! I ended up sleeping until 10 am. Adam come home with a wheat bagel and an iced coffee for me around 10:30 and I felt so much better after a few hours of sleep and a little caffeine.

After breakfast I got showered and ready to head to EVOO to meet some of my favorite bloggers and Gary Hirshberg! For those of you who don’t know, Gary Hirshburh is the C.E.Yo of Stoneyfield Farms.

When I arrived I saw that we had our own private room, how cute!

Of course, I checked out the menu right away!

There were tons of options! I chatted with a few bloggers while waiting for Gary to arrive.

Meghan, Elina and Jennifer.

Meeting Gary in person was so awesome! He is super down to earth.

Talking with him was so educational, I learned so much from listening to him and asking him questions. Gary’s passion for what he does was so inspirational!

I found out that Stonyfield  is as old as me!!!!!! It was founded in 1983 (that makes us both 27 years old)! When Stoneyfield was founded they only had 7 cows and it was actually started as an organic farming school. They hadn’t actually intended to sell yogurt. However, Gary’s business partner,  Samuel Kaymen, made such amazing yogurt that they decided to sell it as a way to pay for the expenses of running the school.

We talked a lot about how farming used to be. Up until 1935, all food was organic. Nothing was grown using pesticides, hormones or antibiotics.  In the 1930’s , chemical companies of all sorts realized that their chemicals could be used to “help farmers” be more profitable. This is how we got into the giant mess we are in today.  These chemicals have caused a lot of issues because of their effect on our food sources and environment. He reminded us that George Washington, Mozart and Jesus Christ ate all organic.

Growing up, all of Gary’s  food came from farms close to home . At one time there were over 400 dairy farmers in NH, there are only 87 -present day.   He also shared some pretty interesting and somewhat alarming stats with us:

  • When a baby is born in the US, he/she has close to 300 toxins in their tissue. About 1/3 of that is a direct result of the mother’s diet.
  • Cows on “conventional” farms live 4-6 years. Cows on organic farms tend to live for 12-20 years.
  • Stonyfield donates 10% of its profits to environmental causes.
  • The President’s Council on Cancer reported that 41% of Americans will be diagnosed with cancer and 21% will die from it. Eating an organic diet can significantly reduce those alarming numbers.
  • The USA’s food supply is only 3.7% organic.
  • Stonyfield has aided in the  prevention 425,000 drug treatments for animals and 185,000 lbs of insecticides and herbicides.
  • 1 in 3 children born after the year 2000 will develop type 2 diabetes
  • Peak Organic Beer is actually owned by Gary’s nephew! How cool is that?!

I learned so much from Gary in the few hours I spent with him I can’t even begin to describe how grateful I was for this experience! He made me think twice about my food choices. He also stressed that buying one organic product makes a difference and we don’t need to have an “all or nothing” attitude. He stressed how powerful we are as bloggers and encouraged us to spread the word. He commented that our passion is clearly in writing and that he hopes that one day it will become our real jobs! I hope that is a reality someday!

Ok, ok, I know you are asking, “So what did you eat?!”

I started off with the asparagus soup!

It came with some small toasts on the side that were so delicious topped with the soup. The soup was actually made Stoneyfield yogurt!!

For my main course I got the tofu. It a lightly fried organic tofu with a honey mustard sauce, fresh veggies and organic brown rice. It was served in a Chinese box.

Leaning tower of tofu ? 😉

Stonyfield Organic Yogurt Tart with Balsamic- Basil Glazed Strawberries.

All of the food was light, fresh tasting and absolutely phenomenal!

The chef, Peter McCarthy, came out an spoke to us about EVOO that has just been open a few months. They are making a huge effort to by local and mostly organic. I really commend them for this.

We left with a goodie bag that included some yogurt, coupons and a signed copy of Gary’s book – which I am sooooooo excited to read!

After my meeting, I walked home from EVOO (about 3 miles) and soaked up all my new knowledge. Since yesterday was Adam’s Birthday (Happy Birthday, Love!) we took a family walk around town.

We walked about 4 miles, Oscar was SO EXHAUSTED by the end of it!!!

During our walk to stopped at Emack & Bolio’s for some celebratory birthday froyo. We just go an Emack & Bolio’s in our neighborhood and I am super excited about it. Look at all the treats they have!

Adam and I got soft serve froyo. I got chocolate banana. HOLY YUM!

Oscar loves Emack & Bolio’s because they have the doggie Sundae!

For the walk home, Adam and I got iced teas! I got black tea and he got green tea. It was so refreshing on a warm day!

We stopped at Paolo’s on the way home and grabbed a pizza to split. Can you guess which half is mine?

The rest of my evening was spent working at my part-time job and on my WEDDING INVITES that should go out soon!!!! Maybe tomorrow YAY!

The three winners are:

I would grab one of the western brekkie sandwiches minus the ham :) they look so yummy!

I’d totally try the egg white on english muffin!

Ashley M:

I would def. try their new breakfast items. I have have been wanting to check them out for awhile, but haven’t had a chance yet. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Yay! All three of you can just shoot me an e-mail with your address to foodfitnessfashion@gmail.com and we will get those cards right to you!!!!

Well, I will be back to fill you in on Tuesday! Woo Hoo almost caught up!
