Dear Body, I Heart You!

Hello! Well, although my breakfast was so yummy it did not keep me as full as my usual breakfasts. So, around 11:00 I had some Bunnie Grahams.

Let me go over lunch quickly. I had lunch at a normal time today…hooray! It was another study lunch (eating while studying). I had the last of the turkey meatballs from this weekend,  with a piece of whole wheat seed bread and a simple salad (lettuce, tomato, cucumber) topped with goddess dressing.

It was all very delicious! I looooove turkey meatballs!

So, for those of you who don’t know, today is National Love Your Body Day! Last year, to celebrate, I wrote a post about my journey to loving my body that you can read here. This year I thought I would post things I love about my body!

I love my green eyes! They are a rare color and every time I look at them, they make me think of my Nana that had the same ones 🙂 I love that I look just like her.

I love my strong runner’s legs that carried me through my half marathon even on a unusually hot May morning.

I love my “elf ear” my right ear is pointed like an elf and my left one is normal. I used to hate this, but my husband thinks it is the cutest thing ever and through his love for it I have come to love it too. Thanks, Adam!

Left:

I love my lungs that treat me well even though I didn’t treat then well for many, many years. They carry me through all my runs even ones on really hot days that are super hard on them!

I love my muscular arms that help me carry my own suitcase and groceries without having to ask for help. They also look great in tank tops and strapless dresses!

I love my booty! I used to hate it!!! I used to always wish I could be one of girls with the cute tiny butts, you know the ones that look like two little oranges? But, I have come to love the fact that I have hips and a booty. I love how feminine it makes me look . Plus I am convinced it helps me to run fast, even if it looks quite big in my running pants!

Most of all I Love My Brain! It helped me get my Bachelors Degree and will help me get my Masters Degree too (almost there). And- will hopefully help me ace this midterm today!!!  It also helps me think of fun blog posts, creative recipes and helps me remember the lyrics to Shoop by Salt n’ Pepper (I know every word still and am proud of it!)

What do you love about your body?

Break to Study…

Hello!!! Well, I took yesterday off from blogging because my priority was working and studying for my mid-term that I have tonight (yikes!!!) I am sure you guys understand. Most of the time blogging is high up on my priority list but there are times when it had to take a backseat.

Breakfast yesterday was a cappuccino and an amazing very dark green monster.

I knew I would need a lot of energy yesterday since I had a long day ahead of me. Nothing gives me energy like a green monster.

This Green Monster was made of:

  • 1 banana
  • 3 huge handfuls of spinach
  • 1 cup of fat free organic milk
  • flax seeds
  • chocolate green superfood
  • vega smoothie mix
  • 1 cup of frozen blueberries

Work was busy as usual- this is just a very busy time of year for us. I took lunch around 2pm and was super hungry by then!

Lunch was a turkey, avocado, and lettuce sandwich on  fresh whole wheat bread with an apple and some baked salt and vinegar chips.

My lunch hour looked pretty much like this: study, study, study.

It was good to get in a little studying during my lunch hour when I am usually blogging instead. I think that extra hour really helped 🙂

Yesterday’s outfit:

Black wide leg pants (Express), White cami (Forever 21), Pink and black cardigan (Ralph Lauren via Marshall’s). I never took a shoe picture because I wore my running shoes all day. I wore them into work with the intend to change and never did. Way to ruin a cute outfit, Ali! Professional outfit + Brooks= NOT CUTE!

There was an afternoon medium Dunkin Donuts coffee with skim milk and 1 pump of vanilla syrup  in the afternoon.

After work I went to the library to meet my study group, but when I got there no one from my group was around. I wondered around for 15 minutes and decided not to waste anymore time and left. It seems like everyone was running late and we didn’t have each others numbers to call and let each other know. Too bad- we have exchanged numbers to avoid this in the future.

While on the train I debated whether I would go home and just break right into the books or get in a nice workout before studying. I was super stressed about the studying because the test was a day away and I was feeling very under prepared. However, I know that working out is the BEST way for me to relieve stress.  I knew that if I worked out (while it would take time away from studying) I would be in a much better mood, and much less stressed which would lead to better quality of studying.

So, I went to my part-time job, where I returned some voice-mails and then suited up for my workout. I ran 3.12 miles in 30:28 minutes (to the gym and back) and did a killer chest, biceps and abs workout. I went up in weight a little and pushed it really hard 🙂

Splits:

  • Mile 1- 9:58
  • Mile 2- 9:08
  • Mile 3- 9:58

Once I reached my part-time job I grabbed my bags and walked home. I was right! I felt amazing and like I was ready to tackle the material I needed to study. I felt less stressed and much more hopeful about getting things done. Sometimes a workout is just the answer.

Upon arriving home I showered and made dinner. I had some chicken sausage that needed to be used up and also and onion and pepper on their way out. So, I decided to make a healthier version of the beloved sausage, peppers and onions 🙂

I heated a medium skillet over medium heat and added the sliced up onion and sliced up red pepper. I added some olive oil, salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, garlic and oregano. I sauteed it until the veggies were tender.

Once everything was cooked up I added two sausages slices and let sauteed everything together until was cooked. It smelled amazing the whole time, my mouth was literally watering.

I put a few spoonfuls of sausage, peppers and onions into a whole wheat fill em’ and topped it with mustard. On the side I had some fresh steamed broccoli (it was on sale this week so I bought two huge bunches) topped with pepper and salt.

It made enough for two, but Adam doesn’t like sausages so I have leftovers. There were also two more sausages in the pack, so I will have to find another creative way to use them up- stay tuned.

I spent about 2 hours studying and them went right to bed, literally like 3 minutes after I closed my binder. I have this theory that if I go to sleep right after studying all the info will get stuck in my brain while I am sleeping. I used this method all throughout undergrad and it worked like a charm. Before heading to bed, I had the other half of a slice of my carrot cake.

This morning I got up an hour earlier than usual (yawn) and studied for an hour before getting ready for work. Once I got up I have a huge cappuccino and some breakfast.

Cantaloupe was on sale this week and I decided to fill 1/2 of one with organic strawberry yogurt and 1/2 a cup of granola. But, since it was so wobbly, it tipped over and spilled out so I just ate it like that.

Today’s Outfit:

Dark matchstick jeans (J Crew), Floral top (Target), Black blazer (Jacob).

In Other News:

A few weeks ago, my friend Dan and I came up with an idea to make a video for our friend Ashley about her marathon. Combined we took a ton of pictures and Dan edited it (he is an editing genius) and the following video was born. Not going to lie, it is pretty awesome!

Also, have you voted for me today to be a Good Mood Blogger (a dream opportunity)? You don’t have to give your e-mail or anything. Just click the link and click vote! THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I am off, I am trying to keep my brain off my midterm so I don’t freak myself out. Test taking anxiety to the fullest! EEEKKK!
