Coffee Is Healthy

Hey!!! I hope your day is going well. Mine has been good! I had lunch again today. My breakfast kept me full until 2:00 pm. Oatmeal has that effect on me. What breakfast keeps you full for hours?

Lunch was another turkey, avocado and lettuce sandwich on fresh whole wheat bread. This combo is so good and I had a little bit of avocado that needed to be eaten or tossed, so I wanted to use it. On the side I had grapes, baked salt and vinegar chips (soooo goood)! I also had a cherry seltzer water. YUMMMM!

After lunch I was feeling sluggish ( I think I am recovering from studying like a maniac)  and got my second coffee of the day. More often then not, I need to get a second coffee during the day.

I will admit, I usually feel guilty about it. Mostly because I have afternoon runs or workouts planned and I don’t want to dehydrate myself.  I have decided not to feel guilty (let’s face it, guilt is never good) but instead focus on the health benefits of coffee. Did you know there were some?

  • Rich and antioxidants – because it has a high caffeine content, coffee is a great source antioxidants that can help to prevent cancer and combat negative effects of aging.
  • Helps Digestion – I think we are all well aware that coffee is a diuretic. It usually sends most people right to the bathroom. However, this many not be a bad thing. Most doctors that treat IBS recommend people drink it to “move things along”. I know on race days for me, I always have it to ensure, I can move things along so I am not running while having to go.
  • Improves Athletic Endurance and Performance – Coffee has proven to intensify athletic stamina as well as general coordination and performing abilities in athletes. It has recently been added to the list of “controlled” substances that are thought to cause an unfair advantage during the Olympic Games.
  • Offsets the Damaging Effects of Smoking – coffee has been shown to equalize some of the negative effects of heavy smokers for those who quit, such as heart disease and liver damage.
  • Treats Asthma and Migraines – most asthma and headache medications contain considerable doses of caffeine in them because substance has the capacity to treat their symptoms.
  • Reduces Your Risk of Liver Disease – studies have shown that people who drink 2 cups of coffee on a daily basis have an 80% reduced risk rate of developing liver cirrhosis.

I feel a little bit better about being a coffee addict now 🙂 Are you a coffee addict? How many do you have a day?

Brain Is Mush!

Hello! Well, last nights midterm was more difficult than I thought it would be. I still think I did okay despite the fact that all three normal pens I have in my bag ran out of ink during the exam (only me) and I had to write the last of my exam in bright purple ink like I junior high school girl!

This version of myself would be so proud!

I had planned on going to the gym, but once I got out of that midterm I felt like my brain needed rest. All that studying and recalling and writing during the exam made my brain hurt and feel like mush.

So I decided to go home and couch it with the hubs and pup. When I got home, there was a package waiting for me. It looks like my photographer sent me my wedding proofs.

What an amazing day!

Picking photos to make our album is going to be so hard since he did such a great job!

I was too lazy to even make dinner so we ordered pizza. I had two slices of veggie pizza while watching Bones. Note to self: never watch a show that usually contains maggots while eating. Yikes!

The pizza was just okay. I was hungry so I ate it. Next time I get to pick the place, this one was Adam’s pick.

Dessert!

I was in bed by 9:30 pm, told you my brain needed a rest!

This morning’s breakfast was pumpkin pie oats with a medium coffee with vanilla syrup and half and half. While I was in the shower Adam went and got coffee for us (love him) and then proceed to spill his everywhere while doing me another favor by taking the dog out. 😦 Poor Ad, but I do appreciate his help!

Oats:

  • 1/3 of a cup of oats
  • 1/3 of a cup of water
  • 1/2 of a banana
  • 1/3 of a cup of fat free organic milk

Toppings:

  • Pumpkin
  • Cinnamon
  • Pumpkin pie spice
  • Nutmeg
  • Brown sugar

It was sooooo good. I think the addition of the pumpkin pie spice made it! Oscar was very excited when I let him lick the bowl. Lucky dog!

Today’s Outfit:

Black sweater dress (H&M), black tights ( Target).

Shoes (Boots):

Gray military boots 🙂 Loves them!

Oh, and I am wearing this adorable little zebra headband 🙂

What do you do when your brain is exhausted, hurts and feel like mush?
