Recovery Weekend

Hello! I hope your weekend was restful. If not restful, I hope it was super fun. I spent most of Saturday relaxing since I wasn’t feeling great! Lunch was Amy’s minestrone soup and a veggie “bacon” BLT (VLT?, VBLT?- who knows).

When Adam got home from work, I stupidly tried to go for a run on the treadmill with him, even though I didn’t feel great. Let’s just say my body didn’t react well. I got weak, faint, dizzy and sick. It was not a great feeling to say the least and I vowed to give myself a few days off from working out to heal. I did manage to get in a decent 1.6 miles before I started to feel badly though. I took yesterday and today off and will try to resume working out tomorrow (Tuesday). LESSON. LEARNED.

After the gym, I when home shower and got dressed. I had a serious craving for pizza. Adam and I went to a small hole in the wall pizza place called La Hacienda that has cheap beer and delicious pizza.  I had a bud light draft and a garden salad with vinegar to start.

For my meal I ordered and individual pizza topped with broccoli, red peppers and mushrooms.

It was amazing- warn, comforting, gooey and the crush was so crunchy! Adam and I talked about how to rivaled Pizzeria Regina. They taste very similar, but I almost like La Hacienda better because it is much less greasy.

After dinner we drove to Adam’s brother and sister-in-law’s house to spent the night hanging out with them. It was fun to see family and meet some of their friends. I felt badly, since I wasn’t really feeling like myself- I kind of just sat around. Oh well, we will have to go visit again when I feel better 🙂

Yesterday I slept in again 🙂 It felt great and I think is contributing to me feeling better today. When I woke up, all I wanted to cereal. I have been really into good ol’ cereal and milk lately! I had kashi go lean crunch with fat free milk, fresh strawberries and 1/2 of a banana sliced.

I also had a mug of coffee while working on school work and laundry. Story of my life!

Around noon time, I went to our house to shovel (we got more snow this weekend – hurray!) and then grabbed a coffee and drove about 50 minutes west to my friend Ibelis’s house for a Lia Sophia jewlery party!

The party was fun! What is not to love about hangout out with girlfriends and looking at jewelry?

And winning raffles!!!!

I won a really nice bracelet that I think I will wear a lot!

I didn’t really eat “lunch” yesterday. Instead I kind of snacked at Ibelis’. She made the fresh black bean salad that was to die for. I feel in love instantly and had a hard time walking away. I have requested the recipe and will share it with you.

I also had a mini cupcake.

and a chocolate ship cookie. Ibelis is an amazing baker and I can never turn down anything she makes!

I had a mug of coffee to enjoy with my dessert. I drank a lot of coffee yesterday!

I bought some jewelry and even got a Mother’s day gift for FFF mom. I am way ahead of the game!!!

I will have to show you what I got for myself when it arrives!

I also spent about 30 minutes trying to figure out how to play with a cat. Ibelis has 2 cats and since I am a dog person, I don’t really know much about cats. Playing with Pricilla was an intersting expereince!

Once I arrived home, I found dinner ready. Thanks, Adam. I had put two corning hens in the crockpot with some honey terriyaki marinade and Adam roasted asparagus with a little oil, garlic, Parmesan cheese and lemon juice.

The asparagus was crunchy and the hen was moist and melted in my mouth. Great snowy afternoon meal. We ate while watching the red carpet. The were some great looks this year! Here are four my favorite!!!!

I was digging the bright colors I saw on the carpet. It made me feel like spring is on it’s way!

I watched the whole show- the Oscar’s are seriously my favorite! I am really interested in seeing The Fighter and Kings Speech now.

Since I was relaxing most of the weekend and knew I had super busy day today, I had a super energy Green Monster for breakfast with some coffee. Double boost!

Green Monster:

  • 1 banana
  • spinach
  • 1 cup of fat free milk
  • ice
  • peanut butter
  • green superfood
  • flax seeds
  • cacao powder

Lunch also had a long list on ingredients. I t was a salad that had a little of everything in my fridge in it:

  • Spring mix
  • avocado
  • bean salad Ibelis let me take home
  • red bell peppers
  • cucumbers
  • a leftover mini turkey burger
  • fat free feta
  • black olives
  • tomatoes
  • artichoke hearts
  • fresh lemon juice and balsamic vinegar as dressing

It was fresh and filling. 🙂

Today’s Outfit:

Bright geometric shaped wrap dress (Target), white cami (H&M), brown tights (Target), brown riding boots (Anne Klein).

I guess I was inspired by the bright colors I saw on the red carpet last night 🙂

Under the Weather.

Hey everyone!!! I hope you guys are all having a great weekend so far. Mine has been okay. I was actually not feeling so well yesterday and ended up leaving work early go do home and get some rest. My parents have had the flu all week and the lady in the cubicle at work has been hacking all week. I knew it was inevitable 😦 I did work until about 1:30 yesterday though, and since I felt crappy I ate lunch while working to try to get as much work done as possible before I headed home.

I had a leftover turkey burger with laughing cow cheese on a whole wheat sandwich thin. On the side I had a salad of mixed greens, cucumbers, mushrooms and red bell peppers topped with balsamic vinegar.

Since I was achy, my eyes hurt, my throat was scratchy and I was feeling feverish (not to mention the attractive cold sores on my face), I went home around 1:30 and spent the afternoon on the sofa. I drifted in and out of sleep until Adam got home. I find that resting right when I begin to feel sick makes me feel better much, much faster.

I wanted to make something easy, quick and comforting for dinner. So I whipped up some Annie’s whole wheat macaroni and cheese and added some broccoli for some veggie power and a little vitamin C.

For dessert I had some dark chocolate with cacao nips, it was delicious 🙂

I rested for the rest of the night and headed to bed early. As a result, I woke up this morning feeling a whole lot better. I slept in until 8:30 and woke up feeling rested. After walking Oscar, I made a nice breakfast for myself.

I had a egg whites, laughing cow, whole wheat sandwich thin and veggie sausage sandwich with grapes and coffee.

I plan on spending the day doing laundry (grrrr) and working on homework- I have a lot of it. Hopefully later on I will feel even better and will be able to go for a short run. Have a great Saturday…see you all later 🙂

Rainy Friday

Morning! It is a wet one here in Boston today. I will take the rain over the snow any day though, seriously! I love when the rain comes and melts the snow, seeing the sidewalks is very exciting for us Bostonians right now 🙂

Yesterday Adam picked me up from work. He had the day off but was working some overtime close by. When he picked me up he gave me a delicious iced coffee from Dunkin’ Donuts (medium french vanilla with cream). I think we are both ready for Spring and iced coffee weather.

Dinner last night was a buffalo turkey burger with snow pea “fries”. Adam was in charge of the burgers. He used about a pound of extra lean ground turkey breast, whole wheat bread crumbs, egg whites and garlic powder. For mine we added buffalo sauce. Which was kind of a genius idea, I think I will only be eating buffalo turkey burgers from now on!

I was in charge of the snow peas. I mixed together about 2 cups of snow peas, 1 tbsp. of olive oil, garlic powder, dried basil and grated cheese in a bowl until the peas were coated. The we baked them at 350 degrees for about 40 minutes. They came out crunchy and delicious!

I enjoyed my burger on a whole wheat bun with laughing cow. Nom, nom, nom!

The crunchy snow peas were a nice change of pace from sweet potato fries we normally have with our turkey burgers. I highly recommend trying them out.

Dessert was a small piece of my Caribbean dark chocolate with cacao nips that I got in the mail from my friend Ashley.

It was DIVINE! The nips provided a little crunch that reminded me of the beloved nestle crunch bar of my childhood.

This morning I made a very simple breakfast. I woke up craving good old cereal and milk. I had kashi golean crunch with fat free milk, topped with fresh strawberries and banana slices- oh and coffee obvi!

Today’s Outfit:

Denim shirt dress (Old Navy), brown belt (Urban Outfitters), Brown tights (Target), Brown riding boots (Anne Klein), Floral Scarf ( Old Navy), No make-up (laziness), Silly looking hair-do (ultra laziness).

I prefer wearing dresses with boots in the rain, I hate the bottom of my pants getting wet during the commute.

Navy Bean Surprise

Hello! I hope your day has been going well! I have been so freaking productive today it is great! I have knocked a lot off of my ever regenerating to-do list! It is the best feeling.

Today during my lunch break I did another speed work run that looked like this:

  • Run at 6.3 (9:32 min/mile) for 10 minutes
  • Run at 8.3 (7:13 min/mile)  for 1 minute
  • Walk at a 3.0 (17:00 min/mile) for 1 minute
  • Alternate between 8.2 and 3.0 -6 more times (for 14 minutes).
  • Run at a 6.3 (9:32 min/mile) for the rest of the time until you reach 3 miles (I ran at a 7.0/8:30 min/mile for the last 10th of a mile for a little last minute kick).

I added speed over the past two days and it made things a whole lot more challenging, I think this is really going to help me out 🙂

Lunch was a massive salad that I made at home this morning. When I was making it Adam said, “Is that your lunch? That thing is massive!” He was right. It was so delicious. It contained:

  • Spring mix
  • red bell peppers
  • tomatoes
  • cucumbers
  • mushrooms
  • artichoke hearts
  • olives
  • beets
  • fat free feta
  • navy beans
  • balsamic vinegar

The navy beans were the best part. When I went looking for beans in the cabinet this morning it was all I had. I barely ever eat them and whenever I do I remember how much I love them! I should get creative and make some fun navy bean recipes 😉

Sorry for my lack of outfit pictures- the bathroom here has the worst lighting and I am trying to play around with it. Hopefully, I can get better ones soon 🙂

Staying The Same

Hello! I hope you are all having a good Thursday so far 🙂 I am. Yesterday after work, Adam picked me up since he had the day off and we met up with our friends Mike, Kevin and Melissa for a few after work beers. I haven’t seen Mike in a few months so it was great to see him and catch up. I had a few bud lights.

When Adam and I got home we made pizza and caught up on Glee (gah- I love that show!). We made individual pizzas on whole wheat crust. Adam joked that mine looked for like a salad than a pizza.

It was topped with:

  • marinara sauce
  • reduced fat mozzarella
  • spinach
  • tomatoes
  • red bell peppers
  • artichoke hearts
  • black olives

It was pizza perfection! Although I wish I had added the mushrooms that I had in the fridge. But, they were hiding when I made the pizza and I forgot about them. It’s a shame!

This morning breakfast reminded me of spring. COME ON SPRING! I had a container of vanilla greek yogurt, a cup of kashi golean and some fresh sliced strawberries with coffee.

This is one of my favorite spring and summer breakfasts. Maybe I can will spring to come early 😉

Last night my bestie May went nuts posting old photos on facebook. They were cracking me up and making me smile! I am so grateful for those friends who have been in my life for a long time and know me so well. It is nice to see that when it seems like everything in life changes, some things stay the same.

FFF’s ABC’s

Hello! Thanks so much for all your tweets, e-mails and comments congratulating me on My Health-iversary! I appreciate that you are all celebrating with me 🙂

Today during my lunch break I went back for more- Day 2 of speed work. This time I went a little faster all over and felt great! Yippee!!! Here is what it looked like:

  • Run at 6.3 (9:32 min/mile) for 10 minutes
  • Run at 8.2 (7:18 min/mile)  for 1 minute
  • Walk at a 3.0 (17:00 min/mile) for 1 minute
  • Alternate between 8.2 and 3.0 -6 more times (for 14 minutes).
  • Run at a 6.3 (9:32 min/mile) for the rest of the time until you reach 3 miles (I ran at a 7.0/8:30 min/mile for the last 10th of a mile for a little last minute kick).

I beat yesterdays 3 mile time by 25 seconds. Can I be faster tomorrow? We shall see. I think Adam was right, this speed work is just what I needed to give my training a boost. I am excited to see how I feel after a week of it.

Lunch was beautiful and packed from home. I am very pleased to have a house full of delicious groceries! I had a turkey sandwich on a whole wheat roll with mustard, tomato and lettuce.

On the side I had popchips

and fruit- strawberries and grapes.

All together it was a great lunch- even though I ate it while working. Great post-run fuel.

My Health-iversary!

Hello, everyone! How are you all doing? I am great, even though I didn’t get much sleep last night (class until 10pm=brain over stimulated and wouldn’t be quiet)! Today is a celebration for me! It is my “Health-iversary”!My what?! Well,3 years ago today, I woke up, threw away my Marlboro Lights, laced up my running shoes and never looked back.

Or started writing my blog and sharing my life with all of you. I am so grateful today for the positive choices I have made in regard to my health. Today I celebrate my health and determination!!!

Well, let me back up 🙂 Last night after work, I headed to the treadmill for my for speed work training this week. In case you missed it, my pace has been off- like waaaayyyyyy offf- so I declared this week speed work week! Many of you have written asking what my work out was- here goes:

  • Run at 6.2 (9:40 min/mile) for 10 minutes
  • Run at 8.0(7:30 min/mile)  for 1 minute
  • Walk at a 3.0 (17:00 min/mile) for 1 minute
  • Alternate between 8.0 and 3.0 -6 more times (for 14 minutes).
  • Run at a 6.3 (9:32 min/mile) for the rest of the time until you reach 3 miles (I ran at a 7.0/8:30 min/mile for the last 10th of a mile for a little last minute kick).

Adam promised I would be a sweaty mess…I was!

All in all it was a good workout, but I think I could have pushed it a little harder. I plan on either adding more speed during the first 10 minutes, adding more speed to the fast section of the interval or both today. I will let you know how it does.

After the workout, I showered and then went to Zoup for dinner.

I am loving having Zoup so close to work/school. It makes things so  convenient, I can get a hot and healthy meal in between work and school. I got the veggie waves of grain soup with a multigrain roll while looking over the newest edition of Women’s Health.

Class was pretty good as usual, but it is late so I have a hard time staying focused. When I arrived home there was a package waiting for me 🙂 My good friend Ashley, who is sailing around the world right now sent me some organic dark chocolate from the Caribbean.

After having a tough day, this was the perfect little surprise and put a huge smile on my face. Thanks, Ash- I miss you tons!

Like I said previously, I had a hard time falling asleep last night. Taking a class late at night makes this so much harder when it comes to sleeping, it is like my brain will not stop. I still woke up feeling okay today though.

Breakfast was a lovely sandwich (yay for having groceries in the house 🙂 ). I was a toasted whole wheat sandwich thin, egg whites, veggie sausage and American cheese with a clementine and some coffee.

The clementine was so juicy, they are almost out of season so I am enjoying them while I can!
