Hey! Sorry, I was missing yesterday, I took a day off from the internet. Sometimes, you just need a day away from the computer, you know? But, let me fill you in. First of all that HUGE STORM we were suposed to get, only amounted to this:
A dusting! Oh well, I got a half day from work and I enjoyed it 🙂 Around 11:30 am, before heading out of the office, I had some fruit.
Since they let us out of work at noon, I decided to go to a noon time yoga class. I hadn’t done yoga in a long time and it felt great! I noticed how much stronger I am since the last time I did yoga. The chaturangas and vasisthasanas were so much easier than they used to be 🙂 Thanks Body Pump 🙂
After yoga, I hopped the the train and headed to The Warren Tavern to meet Adam for lunch and a few snow storm beers! I started off with a blueberry beer.
For lunch I had the soup and half grilled cheese. The soup was a chicken minestrone. Both were delicious and just what I was craving on a cold rainy (it wasn’t snowing yet) day.
There were a few beers (as in more than the two I am showing 😉 ) drank yesterday! It was fun to chat and have a few drinks during the “snow storm”. I also had a Blue Moon.
At around 7pm, Adam and I walked home, it was a little snowy and slippery at that point, we actually fell on one of the streets during our walk (more like I slipped and tried to grab Adam and took him down with me 😉 ).
When we got home, I was NOT in the mood to cook dinner. So Adam suggested we order in. I was fine with that! We ordered chicken parm and chicken, broccoli and ziti.
I had a few small bites of each, but my meal came with a veggie soup and that was so good, I mostly ate that. There is actually another serving of it that I saved in the fridge for lunch or dinner later on this week 🙂
Breakfast this morning was sort of a mish mosh because I wasn’t sure what I wanted.
I had a mini whole wheat bagel with peanut butter, 3 hard boiled egg whites and some fruit: watermelon, grapes, blueberries and 1/2 of a banana with a cup of coffee.

The Belgian waffles sound great! I would eat mine with “strawberry sauce” (aka frozen strawberries microwaved until they become saucy). Yum!

3. “Ask Me Anything” Questions:
Q: When did you know your fiance was “the one?”
A: This is a very easy one for me answer. I knew something was very different about Adam the first time I met him. We became pretty close friends before we started dating and eventually revealed that we had feeling for each other. About 3 months into dating, I was certain Adam was the person I was going to spend the rest of my life with. That was June of 1999.
Of course, whenever I said that people laughed at me and told me it was clearly not going to be the case. After all, the odds were stacked against us, we were only 16 years old! But, we both knew that we would end up spending the rest of our lives together. Adam and I talked about getting married since we were sophomores in high school. It was never and “if we get married” thing, but more of a “when the we get married” thing. Now, almost 11 years later, we are still together and going strong and will be married this coming July!
I know on that day, my 16 year old self will be sticking her tongue out at all the nay sayers…that’s the kind of girl she was 😉
Q: Hey Ali! Cort here. Ummm I was wondering where you food shop and if all/most of your groceries are organic? I am trying to go green with my diet, and need some pointers. Thanks 🙂
A: Well, the simple answer is yes, I pretty much try to only buy organic. Clearly, that can not always be the case. If the grocery store doesn’t carry something I need in the organic section, I will buy whatever is available, but I try to sick to a mostly organic diet whenever it is an option. Meat (turkey and chicken) and dairy are two things I will not buy if they are not organic. As far as produce, there are some fruits and veggies that I would recommend trying your best to buy organically:
- Nectarines – 97.3% of nectarines sampled were found to contain pesticides.
- Celery – 94.5% of celery sampled were found to contain pesticides.
- Pears – 94.4% of pears sampled were found to contain pesticides.
- Peaches – 93.7% of peaches sampled were found to contain pesticides.
- Apples – 91% of apples sampled were found to contain pesticides.
- Cherries – 91% of cherries sampled were found to contain pesticides.
- Strawberries – 90% of strawberries sampled were found to contain pesticides.
- Imported Grapes – 86% of imported grapes (i.e. Chile) sampled were found to contain pesticides.
- Spinach – 83.4% of spinach sampled were found to contain pesticides.
- Potatoes – 79.3% of potatoes sampled were found to contain pesticides.
- Bell Peppers – 68% of bell peppers sampled were found to contain pesticides.
- Red Raspberries – 59% of red raspberries sampled were found to contain pesticides.
There are also some that are ok to not buy organically as they tend to have less amounts of pesticides in them – usually because they possess a thick skin.
- Asparagus
- Avocados
- Bananas
- Broccoli
- Cauliflower
- Corn (However, almost all corn is genetically modified)
- Kiwi
- Mangoes
- Onions
- Papaya
- Pineapples
- Sweet Peas
Buying organically is much easier in the summer, as there are so, so many farmers markets everywhere with tons of cheap and organically grown produce. Another great way to buy organic produce cheaply is to buy what is in season, produce that is in season is so much cheaper since there tends to be a surplus.
Here is a chart of which fruits and veggies are in season when:
That is a great question, Cort and I hope you found my answer helpful. I think it is GREAT that you are trying to green your diet! 🙂
I am still excepting “Ask Me Anything” Questions so don’t forget to submit your anonymous question you want to ask me by clicking here!
Well, that’s it for now. See you all later on at lunchtime!
