Self-Esteem Inventory.

Hey everyone! Well, my snow storm beers last night are making me feel a little less than 100% today. I didn’t drink that much, but I have a little headache that has just been a pain in the butt all day 😦

Lunch was leftovers from dinner on Tuesday night. A turkey burger on a whole wheat sandwich thin, topped with mustard and laughing cow cheese with a side salad.

I had an afternoon snack of grapes and Siggi’s Acai Yogurt!

This flavor is by far my favorite! It has a sweet berry flavor and again, no fruit on the bottom 🙂

This afternoon, I headed downstairs to the office of the the Education and Human Services Department to get a psychological test for a paper I need to write for one of my classes. I love going to school where I work it makes things so much simpler! The professor told us to pick a test would be interested in so we could really learn about it and enjoy writing the paper.  Care to take a stab at which kind of test I picked?

Yup, a Self-Esteem Inventory. Self-esteem is a topic that is so interesting to me 🙂 While perusing the different tests, I sipped a coffee.

Well, I got to get a few more things done here before heading to class. I am taking a workout rest day today and have 2 booty kicking workouts in mind for the next two days. You are going to have to stick around to see what I have planned!!!

Boring Apple Transformed!

Good afternoon! It has been a little messy here today. They are switching over something with our e-mail here today (to be honest I am not sure exactly what they are doing) but it has caused my work e-mail to not work and I have lost some important e-mails, so yes it has been frustrating. Lunch came around 12:30pm when I heard my tummy start talking to me. I had a turkey sandwich on whole wheat Tuscan bread with spicy hummus, guacamole, tabouli and spinach. YUM YUM!

I brought an apple on the side and thought it looked a little boring. :/ Sorry, apple, but it’s true! So I cut it up, put it in my soup bowl, added cinnamon and microwaved it for a minute and a half. Warm cinnamon apple = not so boring!!!

FYI: cutting up an apple with a plastic knife is not easy can can be dangerous! Don’t try this at home, kids! 😉

Ask Me Anything Questions:

Q: Hi Ali. I just wanted to let you know how much I love your blog and how positive you always are!
OK, now to my question:

I’m a high school senior, and am going to college next year (either Suffolk or Northeastern). What’s your advice on eating in college? If it were my choice, I wouldn’t have a meal plan and just get all of my food from TJ’s, but it’s required. Any tips?

A: Wow! I had no idea I had readers in high school! That’s great! So glad you love my blog 🙂 First of all congrats to you for being almost done with High School, so exciting. Second, congrats for even caring about healthy eating at your age, Lord knows I didn’t and wish I had.

I understand where you are coming from, eating healthy in a college dining hall is hard! I do have a few tips:

  1. Eat breakfast! Get up before class and go. It will keep you from being starving around noon when they bring out the fries and steakums. Plus, you will be able to concentrate in class better too! If you don’t have time for a sit down meal, grab fruit, dry cereal a whole wheat bagel and pb..something.
  2. If you have to eat fast food choose wisely: Choose pizza with half the cheese, a regular size roast beef sandwich, baked potato, or green salad with reduced calorie dressing.
  3. Keep healthy snacks on hand so you are not temped to go to the vending machine and fill up on junk. Try kashi bars, fruit, nuts or yogurt.
  4. The salad bar is your friend!!! Have a side salad if you are choosing to eat the mac and cheese it is all about balance.
  5. Use the suggestion box! Most dining halls have them, use them to make healthy suggestions to the staff. I am sure they will help you out and your fellow health conscious students will thank you!

Hope that helps and good luck with applying to college! This is such an exciting time for you 🙂

Q: What time do you usually eat your meals? I leave the house by 6:45am so I bring my breakfast to work and eat around 10. Causing me to eat all my meals late, like dinner at 8 because I don’t get home till 7:30. Any tips on timing your meals for a busy body?

A: Well, this one is hard because the time I eat a measl depends on the day, seriously. I eat breakfast at about 7am, lunch between 12pm-1pm. Dinner is a little wonky. On days I have class, dinner will not come until 7:30pm-8pm. On days I don’t have class and got right home from work dinner is between 5:30pm and 6:30pm. On days I don’t have class, but workout after work it can be between 6:30pm and 9:00pm. So I guess I am not the best with timing. My tip would be to have snacks on you in case you need them between meals. But for me, I am so busy, I eat when I am hungry and when I have the time. But, I always make sure I eat 🙂

Q: What kind of salad do you eat? Is it packaged? If so, what brand?

A: Well, the salads I eat are not packaged. I make them myself at home with whatever I have on hand. But you may be referring to the lettuce I use, and that is packages and it is by Olivia’s Organics. Adam and I love their Spring Mix. Hope that helps!!!

Q: What kind of peanut butter do you eat?

A: Well, I have been eating Naturally More peanut butter for the past few month and I love it! But I also eat, Barney Butter (Almond Butter) and The Store Brand (Stop n’ Shop) Cashew Butter as well. I guess I love nut butters!!!!

Hey you guys! I have had a busy day! After blogging I took a look around and realized my apt needed some cleaning. It wasn’t dirty, just messy. So I cleaned until about noon. At 12:00, I had a quick and messy lunch. I had a whole wheat wrap with feta, tabouli, salsa, and spicy hummus with a side of BBQ Popchips.

After lunch I headed to the gym and did a 5 mile run in 46 minutes. After the run I walked for 5 minutes at a 10 incline, just to spice it up. It was HARD!!!

As you all know, I always talk about how great running is an how much I love it, but there is a less than glamorous side to it.

Sports Bra Burn:

Time to invest in some Body Glide.

And….runner’s calluses.

There are actually other gross foot things that I certain you guys aren’t wanting to see. I am pretty sure these are all things a little Body Glide can help. After my workout, I showered and headed to Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods and Market Basket groceries.

Today’s Outfit:

Jeans (GAP), Sneakers (PUMA), Gray Thermal (AE), White Cami (H&M).

Before heading into TJ’s, I grabbed a tall skinny cinnamon dolce latte.

My deal of the day was I got $37.00 worth of groceries for $4.97 at Whole Foods! Thanks coupons!!!!!!!

After unloading the groceries, cutting up the fruits and veggies for the week, washing dishes and doing laundry, I started some work for my part-time job. I was interrupted by a phone call with GREAT NEWS! It’s not my news, it is really someone else’s so I am not going to share it on here for a while. I want to give that person enough time to tell everyone they are close too, and I don’t want anyone finding out that person’s news on my blog, it is theirs to tell. But it is the best news I have heard in a long time. 🙂 I am thrilled!!!!!

Dinner with my handsome fiance started with a glass of red wine and a fresh salad.

Colorful! I only drank half of that glass of wine.

Dinner was homemade turkey burgers. We mixed lean turkey breast with egg whites, whole wheat bread crumbs and garlic powder and grilled them on the Forman. We ate the on whole wheat Arnold’s thins. I topped mine with cheddar cheese and mustard. We had some baked sweet potato fries on the side with organic ketchup for dipping.

It was awesome!!!! I spent the rest of the evening watching the Grammy’s and getting ready for my day tomorrow. FYI: packing tape is a great substitute if you don’t have a lint roller 😉

Well, I have an early morning, so I got to get to bed. I am going to bed with a big smile on my face tonight 🙂 See you in the morning bloggy friends!!!!!

Morning!!! Well, can you believe Humpday is upon us already? I feel like since the new year arrived the weeks have seriously been flying by! Last night while in class, I sipped on a grande cinnamon dolce latte to get me through hitting that energy wall.

Class was fine, it actually went by really fast for me. After class, I headed to my part time job to meet two customers that both stood me up…fantastic! This happens to me A LOT, people say they are going to meet me to drop off a deposit or to view the halls and never come. It is a little frustrating because I raced out of class, had to pack dinner the night before so I would be able to eat ect, and all or nothing. I actually only HAVE to be in the office one night a week to get paperwork done and sort through mail. The other nights of the week, I do a lot of  work from home as it is all correspondence through phone and e-mail. But, most weeks I am there about 3 nights a showing the hall to people or meeting them to discuss details.

While waiting for the customers and responding to e-mails, I ate the dinner I had packed.

It was an Ezekiel tortilla with mustard, lettuce and turkey with a side salad that had tabouli, reduced fat feta, and tomatoes topped with Italian dressing.

After getting a few things done at my part-time job and realizing I was stood up, I headed to May’s to watch the Pregnancy Pact movie. The movie was just ok, I mean it was a Lifetime movie, so it wasn’t the greatest. The whole story is something that really interests me as someone in school to become a Guidance Counselor. I had a small handful of popcorn while watching it, but forgot to take a picture. I got home around 10:30 and could not keep my eyes open, so no blogging…sorry guys.

This morning, I woke up craving a breakfast burrito. This is becoming one of my new favorite to-go breakfasts since it is so fast, easy and yummy. To save time I added to liquid eggswhites to a bowl and microwaved it for 1 minute and 45 seconds. Perfect!

I added the eggs, some reduced fat cheddar, veggie sausage, hot salsa and spinach to an Ezekiel tortilla and had some coffee along with it. Great breakfast!

Have you guys noticed I am on a huge Ezekiel tortilla kick? My last two meals have included one and…SPOILER ALERT…so does my lunch!

I am also on a brown kick…weird.

For the past few days, I have been wearing brown.  Brown and orange geometric dress (Forver 21), white cami (Forever 21), brown knee high riding boots (TJ Maxx), brown tights (Target).

Here is a close up of the geometric print. I am really into geometric prints, I love bright colors and really busy patterns.

I guess I am on stuck on a food and fashion kick with the Ezekiel tortillas and and brown outfits. And…let’s be honest I have been on a certain fitness kick since I loaded my very first Body Pump bar. Do you get on kicks were you are focused on one kind of food, one fashion trend, or one workout?

1. Self Love Tip of the Day: Lean on Your Friends: Are you the type of person  that wants to do everything for yourself and can’t admit when you need help? ::points to self:: Swallowing your pride and asking friends and family for help and support can really make a difference; after all you would TOTALLY be there for them if they needed you right? This is something I am working on. I never ask for help when I really need it and am always convinced I can take on and juggle anything. I honestly believe I am Superwoman (and in some senses I am!  What you didn’t know I could pass through solid objects? …kidding).

Sometimes, I can’t do everything myself and need to ask for help, but feel badly being a burden, so I don’t. I am going to try and make this a new goal.

2. I tried a new Shampoo and Conditioner this morning that I am in love with and thought I would share with you guys!

I have been using Organix brand shampoo and conditioner for a really long time. The other day when my usual Coconut Milk one was not available at the store I was at, I grabbed the Teatree Mint one instead. I used it for the first time and I looove it! First, I loved the smell. It smelt so clean and reminded me of a spa (always a good thing!). Second, it made my hair so soft and shiny, plus since it is a hydrating shampoo I have no static today! YAY! Just thought I would share!

Hey everyone! How was your Thursday? Mine flew by! After my last post I did a little more work and then headed to the gym for some Body Pumpin’! While on the train, I snacked on a Clif Chocolate Chip bar…these things are like big ol’ cookies, am I wrong?

Body Pump was packed again, but I was able to workout next to my friend Ashley 🙂 OMG! It totally kicked my booty tonight. I am not sure what the deal was but it felt a lot harder tonight than usual, Ashley agreed. I got a good workout for sure!!! After BP, we headed downstairs to Starbucks to sip coffee and talk wedding planning and boys 🙂 I had a tall skinny cinnamon dolce latte. OMG, my new favorite! I have always been a vanilla latte girl….but this is waaaayyyyy better! Why has no one told me about this?

I stopped up at my parent’s house to pick up Oscar and ended up there for 45 minutes chatting wedding and house plans, so dinner had to be quick and easy. I made a turkey panini on the George Forman Grill.

Two pieces of whole wheat bread, 3 slices of turkey, 1 slice of cheddar cheese, 3 tomato slices, a small handful of spinach. YUMMO! The cheese was perfectly meltly! 🙂

On the side I had some red grapes.

Not going to lie, I totally ate a serving of these guys while making my panini and chatting with Adam (about wedding stuff).

WHY ARE YO SO ADDICTING POPCHIPS? WHY??????

I am currently sipping hot chamomile tea as I blog, so relaxing!

Hey everyone, I hope you Monday is wrapping up nicely. I know mine is. I was super productive this afternoon at work. I got a bunch of overwhelming things crossed off the to-do list, but I am certain I will be pretty slammed for the rest of the week. Oh, well, it is that time of year, plus you all know how I LOVE to be busy! While working I snacked on my pre-work out/afternoon snack of a Crunchy Peanut Butter Clif bar. I haven’t had a Clif bar in a long time, I forgot how much I loved them! I got a 24 pack of them at Costco yesterday and I am very pleased with my purchase, since I was on the fence about it. I ate Clif bars almost everyday for a long stretch of time and got so sick of them. But I think I am ready for round two now 😉

I wrapped up at work around 5:15 and hopped on the train to the gym. Body Pump didn’t start until 6:30, so I sat in the Starbucks next door and sipped on a short skinny vanilla latte while working on some stuff for my part-time job. Do I ever stop working? Nah!

(Sorry, I had to blur out a customer’s information that was written in my book.)

After my work was done, I headed to the gym for a different kind of work…Body Pump. For those of you new to the blog, you can learn more about Body Pump by clicking here. While pumping tonight, I was feeling a little pain in the upper part of my right knee. I don’t think it is anything to worry about, but I am keeping an eye on it. I am not going to panic just yet. As always, BP was a great workout!

The Clif bar tied me over really well, I wasn’t starving when I got home like I was last time I went to Body Pump. I was able to shower and get dressed before eating dinner this time, which is how I prefer it. Dinner was a simple wrap: whole wheat wrap with guacamole (can you tell I am developing a slight obsession with guac), spicy hummus, turkey, orange bell pepper , reduced fat shredded cheddar and spinach.

One the side I had two GIANT handfuls of red grapes. They are awesome this time of year!

Dessert was a mug of chamomile tea and a little bit of dark chocolate.

I enjoyed my dessert while working on some wedding stuff and chatting with my mom and dad about possible Rehearsal Dinner locations.

Work, Work, Work! 😉

Well, I am off to read some of my favorite blogs then burry my nose in my book, usual evening for me ! See you in the morning, have a great night!

COMBAT!

Good Afternoon! I hope all of you are having a great Hump Day!

I got am e-mail from my co-worker, Wendy today asking me if I wanted to go to Body Combat with her today! Um….YES! For those of you who don’t know, Body Combat is the kick boxing on crack cardio sister of my beloved Body Pump! I have never tried Body Combat, but of course I was so excited to try it. Verdict: AWESOME! It was so fun! Like BP, the tracks were full of energy and challenging. I looooved it!

Once I realized I was going to go to Body Combat during lunch, I knew I needed a little snack to carry me through. So I snacked on half of a pure bar before hitting the gym for a little lunch time workout.

It did the trick! After Body Combat I was starving though. I think I torched some serious calories! Lunch was a tasty wrap!

It has turkey, hummus, tabbouleh, reduced fat feta, lettuce, cucumber and avocado 🙂 YUM YUM!

On the side I had some red grapes and some sour cream and onion popchips!

Lunch:

Healthy, nutritious and filling! Perfect!!!

Have a great rest of your day, see you later on. 🙂

Hey everyone! How is your Monday wrapping up? Mine was good. After my last post, I suited up and headed out for a chilly run.

IMG_4132.JPG

I loooove my new running gear 🙂 My mom and dad bough me new running tights and tops. They also got me a new sports bras, new socks (sweat wicking) and a new headband!!!! Adam got me new gloves, they have sensors on them that help when adjusting my Garmin and playing with my iPod.

The run felt great, it felt like I could run forever, but it did get dark and I kept thinking about Adam being worried about me, so I cut it shorter than it could have been. It turns out Adam was at the gym and not worried at all, oh well.

IMG_4134.JPG

I did 10.11 miles in 1:35:55, which averages out to a 9:25 min/mile.

Splits:

Mile 1 – 8:24

Mile 2– 8:53

Mile 3– 8:59

Mile 4– 9:16

Mile 5– 9:42

Mile 6– 9:28

Mile 7– 9:46

Mile 8– 9:58

Mile 9– 9:37

Mile 10– 9:47

Last .11– 1:20

Around mile 6, I ate a few Trader Joe’s gummy penguins that I out in my spibelt.

IMG_4129.JPG

They basically are the poor man’s Luna Moons or GU. They really helped out in those last four miles!!!!

After my run I stretched, showered and made a quick dinner, I was hungry. I woke up so late that I never ate lunch. So all I had in me was a whole wheat bagel with barney butter and a 1/2 of a banana and the gummies. I WAS HANGRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dinner:

IMG_4135.JPG

I actually ate everything but the pickle pak. A mini whole wheat tortilla with hummus, turkey, reduced fat feta and tabouli, leftover salad from Christmas and some natural baked salt and vinegar chips.

Sammie close up:IMG_4136.JPG

YUM YUM!!!!!!! Well, I am off to get dressed. My mom, dad, Adam and I are going to out local bar tonight to play Trivia. Should be fun, see you all later 🙂

First, let me begin by saying THANK YOU!!!! Thank you for all your support and well wishes for my final exams and for dealing with my sporadic blogging over the last few weeks. I feel so lucky to have a  great support in my readers! My finals are done (!!!!) and now I am back to my regularly scheduled program, so you will be seeing a lot more of me! But, let me catch  you all up right now!

So, I think I need to rewind all the way to Monday’s lunch…wow, that feels like forever ago! Monday’s lunch was left over’s from Sunday night’s dinner!

I also had a few shrimp and cocktail sauce that was brought in by one of my co-workers are well. What a treat!

All together!

After lunch, I worked until about 4pm and then headed to a study group for my final. While studying, I snacked on some fruit snacks and a clementine (not pictured).

My final Monday night went a lot better than expected! I am certain that hour and 4o minute study group beforehand really helped! I can’t wait to see my actual grade in a few days 🙂

After the final we met for another study group for last night exam! It was productive, but we were there for over three hours!!! While working, I had dinner which was a turkey, mustard and lettuce sandwich on an Ezekiel tortilla.

On the side I had some sliced cucumbers and baby carrots.

After the study group, I headed home and conked out! My brain was tired!!!!

I got up yesterday morning and was VERY anxious about my exam. I made a quick breakfast to get into work early so I could get out a little early and make a 4pm study group. Breakfast was two pieces of Ezekiel cinnamon raisin toast with natural peanut butter and a clementine with some coffee.

Here is yesterday’s outfit:

Yellow Chinos (J CREW), Black flats (Anne Klein), Black Cami (H&M), Black and White Floral Sweater (Target).

Close up of the design on the sweater:

Lunch was Pacific Roasted Red Pepper and Tomato Soup:

I also had a few Kashi crackers, a lite laughing cow and a clementine on the side as well.

This soup is seriously delicious!!! I know I raved about the tomato soup last week,  and this flavor did not disappoint either! SO. GOOD!

After work, I headed to my study group were I had a few snacks while going over the material. Tall nonfat Gingerbread Latte:

and some rice crisps.

Last nights final went…ok. I sort of blanked out on some stuff and no matter what I tried was unable to get it back! I think is did well enough, but it was not a shining moment. I know for sure I passed it, but I am fairly certain it was not “A” quality. Oh well, I did my best and that is all the matters, right? After the final, I headed to my part-time job (my days are seriously NEVER ENDING!) and worked for  about an hour and a half. Whew! It is a busy week there for sure! When I was done there, Adam picked me up ans took me for dinner and a beer to celebrate the end of my semester.

I had two Sam Winters (one for each class…dur).

CHEERS to hard work and now relaxation!!!!

For my meal I ordered the grilled scallops! My meal came with a salad I ate 90% of it use the dressing on the side for dipping.

Dinner!!!!

It was delicious! the scallops had a sweet sauce that made then taste so different, I loved it! I ate about half the scallops and all of the rice (oh and four of Adam’s fries 😉 )

I asked the waitress to wrap up my last 6 scallops for lunch today and she did, but I totally forgot to grab them as we left. 😦 I hate when I do that!

When I  came home and had a few gifts waiting for me! 🙂 Pop chips sent me a HUGE box full of chips!!!! I squeeled with delight! I loooove POPCHIPS!

And….

My mom gave me this book! I am excited to be able to read for pleasure!!!!!! This is the newest book from the author of The Time Traveler’s Wife. I will let you guys know what I think when I am done!

We got home at 9:30 and I crashed, I was exhausted. I got up at 6:25 this morning and headed out for a COLD run along the Charles River this morning. It is seriously freezing here in Beantown! It was 30 degrees this morning ans with the windchill it left like 20 degrees (according to the weather girl) it was a cold and windy run, but I needed it! I gave all the stress I had been feeling the past few days to the pavement. During my run I realized that I can relax and enjoy the Holidays now and I got really excited. All in all it was a fantastic run even though I was cold.

I ran 4.67 miles in 44:30

Splits:

mile 1: 9:13

mile 2: 9:00

mile 3: 9:21

mile 4: 9:19

.67: 6:33

I had a liquid breakfast today.

Green Monster and coffee!

Today’s outfit:

Gray Pants (GAP), Black Flats (Anne Klein), White T-shirt (Target), Blue Blazer (Target).

Well, I got a lot going on here at work busy, busy!!! See you all in a bit!

Well, hello there!!! I was so slammed yesterday I literally had NO TIME to blog in the afternoon. I ended up staying up until 2am writing a final paper for one of my classes. My day looked like this:

6:30-7:30am: Finish Weekend wrap up blogging

7:30am-8:30am: Get ready and get to work.

8:30am: Quick Breakfast and outfit Blog

9:00am-12:00pm: WORK, WORK, WORK

12:00-1:00pm: Body Pump

1:00-4:30pm: WORK, WORK, WORK

4:30-7:00pm: Class

7:00-8:30 pm: Get work done at my part-time job

8:30-9:0o pm: Shower

9:00pm-2:00am : Write Final Paper

WOW! Well, I did get a lot accomplished for sure! The fact that I couldn’t fit in blogging makes me feel out of sorts. Blogging is something I do everyday and when I am unable to do it, I feel uneasy and like something is missing! Now that you have seen the schedule, lets look at my eats for the day.

At 1:30pm, while working, I enjoyed a huge salad:

This salad was the best! It had tons of variety:

  • Lettuce
  • tomato
  • cucumbers
  • corn
  • edamame
  • artichoke hearts
  • black olives
  • chicken
  • reduced fat feta
  • beets
  • celery

It was super filling and a great way to refuel after my lunch hour Body Pump, since it had fresh veggies, lean proteins and whole grains.

Before heading to class, I had a “preventative” snack. I call it that because I knew I would be hungry while in class and wanted to make sure I was able to get through the class without wanting to gnaw my own arm off. So I had a snack before class, I am glad I did because it helped me pay attention and kept me full until 7:00pm-ish.

Yogurt and fruit: blueberries, raspberries and grapes.  YUM YUM! I loved this yogurt flavor, I have never had it before. It was not too sweet or artificial tasting. I recommend it!

After class, I headed to my part-time job to get some work done and ate my dinner while working.

Turkey and spinach with spicy mustard on a whole wheat tortilla and a few handfuls of green grapes. My boss (aka my dad) would be pissed if he knew I was eating on top of his computer! Sorry dad, I cleaned up after myself!

After working at my part-time job, I stopped by the closest mailbox to mail some contacts and decided if I was going to write this paper I needed a utilized the Dunkin’ Donuts near the post office.

Ugh, I hated to do it, but it had to be done. I got a large coffee and drank every last sip!!! As you know, I ended staying up until 2am writing my paper. I am pleased with the turn it, it seems to be coherent. I clicked save and e-mailed it off to my friend John, who so graciously offered to edit it and then I hit the hay.  I actually thought about blogging, but the idea of writing one more word (after 5 hours of writing) made me feel ill.

I got up this morning at 6:45…hurray for 4.75 hours of sleep (sarcastic). When I weighed the breakfast options and I realized  was craving something sugary. I am sure that the lack of sleep had something to do with this. So I grabbed a whole wheat tortilla out of the fridge and headed it up on the microwave for 20 seconds and put some dark chocolate peanut butter on one side and some natural peanut butter on the other side. I topped it with 1/2 of a banana and about mini dark chocolate chips.

I folded it in half and ate it like a taco while getting ready for work.

I also had some coffee with half and half in my new mug I bought in NYC.

Since it is the coldest day we have had all season here in Boston today, I am dressed in layers.

Brown Trouser Corduroys (Jacob), White Cami (Forever 21), Pale Pink Scoop Neck Top (GAP), Oatmeal Cable Knit Cardigan (J Crew an Xmas gift from May from ages ago), Brown Tooled Danskos.

Lunch was free today!!! There was some yummy stuff leftover from a morning meeting. I usually don’t bother because the options are never healthy, so you can imagine my delight when I saw this:

I grabbed a half turkey sandwich with spicy mustard, lettuce and tomato on a whole wheat roll, with a pickle and some whole wheat pasta salad.

Look at all that yummy turkey!

Like I didn’t get enough of this on Thanksgiving!!! 😉

In other news:

1. If you follow me on Twitter you will notice I had some questions/aggravations about my hair getting all statice in the winter. I did a little research on this. Apparently, this is caused by the cold, dry air dehydrating your hair. So here are some tips I found to keeping your hair from getting statice:

  1. Deep-condition your hair regularly.
  2. Use a “leave-in” conditioner on your hair after you wash it.
  3. Spray your hairbrush or comb with an anti-static spray before you run it through your hair.
  4. Keep a fabric softener sheet handy and run it over your hair when it starts to get out of control. Carry it in your purse so you can use it several times during the day if necessary.
  5. Avoid hair products that include ingredients that will dry out your hair, such as alcohol or harsh chemicals such as sodium lauryl sulfates.

Have you guys ever done any of these? Do you have tips to beat winter static?

2.  I came across an interesting article in the Boston Globe Today. It is about bloggers receiving free things to review on their blog. The question is should bloggers have to say, “This company sent me this product for free.”?  The idea is presented that there may be bloggers out there that will present a product review as their honest experience or opinion, when in actuality it is really a paid advertisement.

One blogger is quotes as saying that he looks at receiving these products as “what it takes to get the job done”, rather than as payment. What are your thoughts on the subject?

Personally, I guess I never out right say, “I got this for free.” What I usually say is something along the lines of: ” The great people at FILL IN COMPANY NAME sent me these products to try.” That usually means, I got it for free. I taste/use the product and give my honest opinion, my review is never bought and I NEVER say I like something I don’t. There have been times that I have received e-mails from companies offering to send me free things and I feel the need to graciously decline. Usually it is because, I don’t think I will like the product, dislike the way the company does business, or feel uncomfortable putting their product in my body. I NEVER agree to try a product I would not buy myself.

3.  A reader/my new running partner, Julia,  just completed running her first half marathon. YAY JULIA!!! During our run right after her half, she talked about wanting to document her experience in writing before she forgot all the details,  so she can look back on it. We  thought it would be a great idea for her to write about her experience in a guest post.  So Julia has been working on the post for a few days and it is going to go up this afternoon for you guys to check out!!!! YAY! Here is Julia and I during our first run together!

4. Since I have been super stressed the last few days, I decided that I need to make myself some goals to keep things from getting out of hand. Luckily, these new goals coincide with with the first day of a new month!!! YAY- something about putting new goals into place at the beginning of the month makes me feel like I am starting with a fresh blank slate.

December Goals:

  • Focus on School for the last three weeks of the semester. I have 1 more paper and 2 more finals to get through before my semester ends. I want to focus on buckling down and making sure I put in as much effort as I can to finish my semester on a positive note.
  • Limit spending on myself. During the holiday season, I am working on literally only spending money on myself when it is an absolute necessity.
  • Stick to my Holiday Budget! I need to make a budget/ limit as to how much I will spend on each person on my list and stick to it. My upcoming wedding and house renovations are going to be very expensive, so I need to make sure I am not over doing it for the holidays. But, this is kind of fun for me because I loooove bargain hunting!
  • Make time for blogging!!! I love it and I feel sad when I know that I didn’t post as often as I would like or write great content. So, I need to make sure that I am putting in the effort to keep on top of this. Plus, I know you guys miss me when I am not around, huh!? 😉
  • Get work done!!!! It is honestly that simple. I am getting slammed at both jobs right now and I need to make sure that I am using my time wisely and doing my best to get things done.
  • Focus on one thing at a time! Sure, I am lucky enough to be blessed with the gift of being an amazing multi-tasker ( I think it is a female thing 😉 ). But, I find that when I focus on the task at hand, I am much more productive and when I am this busy, every minute needs to be productive.

As there are many things I need to work on and set a goals this month, it is also important for me to remember the things that I am already doing well. It reminds me of my strengths and ensures that I will not slip up on these things.

Things I Will Keep Up This Month:

  • My healthy eating! Even though my life can be a world-wind at times, I am always able to take the extra time to prepare myself healthy meals that serve as good fuel for my body.
  • HYDRATE!!! I am usually good at this, but sometimes during the Holiday season, I can slip a little here. I drink more coffee to keep warm and there is tons of dehydrating alcoholic beverages around at parties and events.
  • Exercise! This is my “me” time. I try to get in a good run or BP session 6 days a week. I need to make sure that this is still a priority during this busy time. It is one of the only things I do for “me” and let’s face it, I am miserable when I am not moving.
  • Make Time Be Around The People I Care About! Self-explanatory.
  • Stay Positive. If you have been reading this blog for any length of time you are aware that I am a very positive person. I am a firm believer that things are what you make them. We can really make a decision to be happy or not to be. During stressful times, it becomes more difficult to stay positive, I want to make sure I make an active effort to do so.

What are your goals this month? What are you already doing well and want to make sure you keep that up?

4. I received an invite to this event yesterday. Unfortunately, it falls on the same day as Adam’s Work Holiday Party, so I can’t go. But it is a great cause and looks like tons of fun. I know there are a bunch of local bloggers going, so if you aren’t busy and want to go here is the info.

5. Lastly, as you all know, I am blessed enough to have the most hilarious, generous and loving Papa in the whole wide world!!! I am having a hard time thinking of a gift to get him this holiday season. I tweeted about this earlier. I got a few ideas, but I was wondering if any of you guys have ideas. A little info about my Pa:

  • He is 82 years old
  • He lives with my Mom and Dad
  • He is a Navy Veteran (WW II)
  • He loves birds, ships and watching judge shows.
  • He is a little overwhelmed by new technology.

If you guys have any ideas, I would LOVE to hear them!!!

Well, I got a lot to do here, see you guys later on 🙂
