Well, hello there!!! I was so slammed yesterday I literally had NO TIME to blog in the afternoon. I ended up staying up until 2am writing a final paper for one of my classes. My day looked like this:
6:30-7:30am: Finish Weekend wrap up blogging
7:30am-8:30am: Get ready and get to work.
8:30am: Quick Breakfast and outfit Blog
9:00am-12:00pm: WORK, WORK, WORK
12:00-1:00pm: Body Pump
1:00-4:30pm: WORK, WORK, WORK
4:30-7:00pm: Class
7:00-8:30 pm: Get work done at my part-time job
8:30-9:0o pm: Shower
9:00pm-2:00am : Write Final Paper
WOW! Well, I did get a lot accomplished for sure! The fact that I couldn’t fit in blogging makes me feel out of sorts. Blogging is something I do everyday and when I am unable to do it, I feel uneasy and like something is missing! Now that you have seen the schedule, lets look at my eats for the day.
At 1:30pm, while working, I enjoyed a huge salad:
This salad was the best! It had tons of variety:
- Lettuce
- tomato
- cucumbers
- corn
- edamame
- artichoke hearts
- black olives
- chicken
- reduced fat feta
- beets
- celery
It was super filling and a great way to refuel after my lunch hour Body Pump, since it had fresh veggies, lean proteins and whole grains.
Before heading to class, I had a “preventative” snack. I call it that because I knew I would be hungry while in class and wanted to make sure I was able to get through the class without wanting to gnaw my own arm off. So I had a snack before class, I am glad I did because it helped me pay attention and kept me full until 7:00pm-ish.
Yogurt and fruit: blueberries, raspberries and grapes. YUM YUM! I loved this yogurt flavor, I have never had it before. It was not too sweet or artificial tasting. I recommend it!
After class, I headed to my part-time job to get some work done and ate my dinner while working.
Turkey and spinach with spicy mustard on a whole wheat tortilla and a few handfuls of green grapes. My boss (aka my dad) would be pissed if he knew I was eating on top of his computer! Sorry dad, I cleaned up after myself!
After working at my part-time job, I stopped by the closest mailbox to mail some contacts and decided if I was going to write this paper I needed a utilized the Dunkin’ Donuts near the post office.
Ugh, I hated to do it, but it had to be done. I got a large coffee and drank every last sip!!! As you know, I ended staying up until 2am writing my paper. I am pleased with the turn it, it seems to be coherent. I clicked save and e-mailed it off to my friend John, who so graciously offered to edit it and then I hit the hay. I actually thought about blogging, but the idea of writing one more word (after 5 hours of writing) made me feel ill.
I got up this morning at 6:45…hurray for 4.75 hours of sleep (sarcastic). When I weighed the breakfast options and I realized was craving something sugary. I am sure that the lack of sleep had something to do with this. So I grabbed a whole wheat tortilla out of the fridge and headed it up on the microwave for 20 seconds and put some dark chocolate peanut butter on one side and some natural peanut butter on the other side. I topped it with 1/2 of a banana and about mini dark chocolate chips.
I folded it in half and ate it like a taco while getting ready for work.
I also had some coffee with half and half in my new mug I bought in NYC.
Since it is the coldest day we have had all season here in Boston today, I am dressed in layers.
Brown Trouser Corduroys (Jacob), White Cami (Forever 21), Pale Pink Scoop Neck Top (GAP), Oatmeal Cable Knit Cardigan (J Crew an Xmas gift from May from ages ago), Brown Tooled Danskos.
Lunch was free today!!! There was some yummy stuff leftover from a morning meeting. I usually don’t bother because the options are never healthy, so you can imagine my delight when I saw this:
I grabbed a half turkey sandwich with spicy mustard, lettuce and tomato on a whole wheat roll, with a pickle and some whole wheat pasta salad.
Look at all that yummy turkey!
Like I didn’t get enough of this on Thanksgiving!!! 😉
In other news:
1. If you follow me on Twitter you will notice I had some questions/aggravations about my hair getting all statice in the winter. I did a little research on this. Apparently, this is caused by the cold, dry air dehydrating your hair. So here are some tips I found to keeping your hair from getting statice:
- Deep-condition your hair regularly.
- Use a “leave-in” conditioner on your hair after you wash it.
- Spray your hairbrush or comb with an anti-static spray before you run it through your hair.
- Keep a fabric softener sheet handy and run it over your hair when it starts to get out of control. Carry it in your purse so you can use it several times during the day if necessary.
- Avoid hair products that include ingredients that will dry out your hair, such as alcohol or harsh chemicals such as sodium lauryl sulfates.
Have you guys ever done any of these? Do you have tips to beat winter static?
2. I came across an interesting article in the Boston Globe Today. It is about bloggers receiving free things to review on their blog. The question is should bloggers have to say, “This company sent me this product for free.”? The idea is presented that there may be bloggers out there that will present a product review as their honest experience or opinion, when in actuality it is really a paid advertisement.
One blogger is quotes as saying that he looks at receiving these products as “what it takes to get the job done”, rather than as payment. What are your thoughts on the subject?
Personally, I guess I never out right say, “I got this for free.” What I usually say is something along the lines of: ” The great people at FILL IN COMPANY NAME sent me these products to try.” That usually means, I got it for free. I taste/use the product and give my honest opinion, my review is never bought and I NEVER say I like something I don’t. There have been times that I have received e-mails from companies offering to send me free things and I feel the need to graciously decline. Usually it is because, I don’t think I will like the product, dislike the way the company does business, or feel uncomfortable putting their product in my body. I NEVER agree to try a product I would not buy myself.
The article is worth looking at if you are a blogger or a reader. You can click here to read the full article.
3. A reader/my new running partner, Julia, just completed running her first half marathon. YAY JULIA!!! During our run right after her half, she talked about wanting to document her experience in writing before she forgot all the details, so she can look back on it. We thought it would be a great idea for her to write about her experience in a guest post. So Julia has been working on the post for a few days and it is going to go up this afternoon for you guys to check out!!!! YAY! Here is Julia and I during our first run together!
4. Since I have been super stressed the last few days, I decided that I need to make myself some goals to keep things from getting out of hand. Luckily, these new goals coincide with with the first day of a new month!!! YAY- something about putting new goals into place at the beginning of the month makes me feel like I am starting with a fresh blank slate.
December Goals:
- Focus on School for the last three weeks of the semester. I have 1 more paper and 2 more finals to get through before my semester ends. I want to focus on buckling down and making sure I put in as much effort as I can to finish my semester on a positive note.
- Limit spending on myself. During the holiday season, I am working on literally only spending money on myself when it is an absolute necessity.
- Stick to my Holiday Budget! I need to make a budget/ limit as to how much I will spend on each person on my list and stick to it. My upcoming wedding and house renovations are going to be very expensive, so I need to make sure I am not over doing it for the holidays. But, this is kind of fun for me because I loooove bargain hunting!
- Make time for blogging!!! I love it and I feel sad when I know that I didn’t post as often as I would like or write great content. So, I need to make sure that I am putting in the effort to keep on top of this. Plus, I know you guys miss me when I am not around, huh!? 😉
- Get work done!!!! It is honestly that simple. I am getting slammed at both jobs right now and I need to make sure that I am using my time wisely and doing my best to get things done.
- Focus on one thing at a time! Sure, I am lucky enough to be blessed with the gift of being an amazing multi-tasker ( I think it is a female thing 😉 ). But, I find that when I focus on the task at hand, I am much more productive and when I am this busy, every minute needs to be productive.
As there are many things I need to work on and set a goals this month, it is also important for me to remember the things that I am already doing well. It reminds me of my strengths and ensures that I will not slip up on these things.
Things I Will Keep Up This Month:
- My healthy eating! Even though my life can be a world-wind at times, I am always able to take the extra time to prepare myself healthy meals that serve as good fuel for my body.
- HYDRATE!!! I am usually good at this, but sometimes during the Holiday season, I can slip a little here. I drink more coffee to keep warm and there is tons of dehydrating alcoholic beverages around at parties and events.
- Exercise! This is my “me” time. I try to get in a good run or BP session 6 days a week. I need to make sure that this is still a priority during this busy time. It is one of the only things I do for “me” and let’s face it, I am miserable when I am not moving.
- Make Time Be Around The People I Care About! Self-explanatory.
- Stay Positive. If you have been reading this blog for any length of time you are aware that I am a very positive person. I am a firm believer that things are what you make them. We can really make a decision to be happy or not to be. During stressful times, it becomes more difficult to stay positive, I want to make sure I make an active effort to do so.
What are your goals this month? What are you already doing well and want to make sure you keep that up?
4. I received an invite to this event yesterday. Unfortunately, it falls on the same day as Adam’s Work Holiday Party, so I can’t go. But it is a great cause and looks like tons of fun. I know there are a bunch of local bloggers going, so if you aren’t busy and want to go here is the info.
5. Lastly, as you all know, I am blessed enough to have the most hilarious, generous and loving Papa in the whole wide world!!! I am having a hard time thinking of a gift to get him this holiday season. I tweeted about this earlier. I got a few ideas, but I was wondering if any of you guys have ideas. A little info about my Pa:
- He is 82 years old
- He lives with my Mom and Dad
- He is a Navy Veteran (WW II)
- He loves birds, ships and watching judge shows.
- He is a little overwhelmed by new technology.
If you guys have any ideas, I would LOVE to hear them!!!
Well, I got a lot to do here, see you guys later on 🙂
